Green in Regulation (GIR) in golf refers to hitting the ball onto the green within the regulation number of strokes based on the hole's par:
 

Par 3: Reach the green in 1 shot.
Par 4: Reach the green in 2 shots.
Par 5: Reach the green in 3 shots.
